San Antonio Catholic High Schools
Procedures for 9th Grade Admission
2009-2010
High School Placement Test (HSPT) Registration: This test is administered at every high school campus on the first Saturday in December and the cost is $15.00. Students may pre-register for the test by means of school websites, mail-outs from schools, campus tours or open houses. All students are encouraged to pre-register with the high school of their first choice. The common HSPT form will be used by all high schools. A high school may opt to offer a day to introduce the testing format and testing procedures for taking the test prior to the actual test date High schools will not participate in active recruitment between December 5, 2009 and February 5, 2010. Active recruitment is defined as individual contact of a specific student after the first placement test. Students (public or private) who have not tested in any school are available for recruitment.
Responsibility of Department of Catholic Schools (DCS): The DCS will request and receive by August 31st from each elementary school a list of 8th grade students including: student name, gender, address, phone number, and name of parent/guardian. This list will be sent to the Region One Chairperson whose responsibility will be to properly format and develop one list that is then forwarded to all Catholic high school principals and admissions directors in the city.
Responsibility of High School Admissions Office: Each high school admissions director will request 8th grade records from elementary schools for each student that reported for the high school placement test. The high school admissions director will submit a list of students who took the high school placement test to the middle schools during the week of December 9, 2009. Schools request that middle school recommendations be sent to high schools by January 15, 2010. The high school admission directors will also submit a list of students that tested at their school to the other Catholic high schools. Schools may opt to send HSPT scores at any time prior to the common acceptance date.
Meetings with Admissions Committees: All high schools meet with their designated admissions committees to make decisions on acceptance. Letters concerning decisions on student’s acceptance or denial from the December test date may not be sent until Monday February 5, 2010. Because this is a very important decision, the admissions committees need adequate time to make a thorough decision on each student. Please discourage parents from calling the schools to request decisions. Once decision letter are sent, we agree to provide the individual middle schools lists of the students accepted from their campus.
Additionally, schools will provide a list and records of those students not being accepted, to all Catholic high schools, so that they might be considered for entry at another Catholic school. This list shall be provided on February 1, 2010. No action may be taken by the receiving school until Monday, February 8, 2010.
Registration Procedures: Each high school campus has its own set of standards involving registration for the students. Parents will be notified as to the procedure of the school of student registration.
Additional Testing Dates: It is the decision of the individual high school as to whether there is a second test date scheduled. The second test date is available for students who miss the December test date; it is not meant for students to repeat the test in order to try to improve their scores.
Early Admissions: The High schools decided in November 2008 that they would discontinue their early admissions processes at their respective campuses. The group acknowledged that The Atonement Academy would pursue an alternative process of admissions.
