Spanish Summer Projects

2010

Students who will be in 5th or 6th grade in August, 2010:

I would like you to take the “Spanish Steps” program: 24 mini-lessons (about 20 minutes each) with Kevin Duala who is visiting Madrid in Spain. You will practice “practical” Spanish (ordering in a restaurant, buying something in a store, etc.) through videos and practice activities. You might also like to sign up for a weekly “Spanish Tip” that will be sent to you by email Please click on the link below (you might have to hold down the control key while you click) and go through the “user guide” before you start. I would also like you to print out your “learning log” and turn it in on the first day of school. Have fun!

If you enjoyed “Spanish Steps” you might also like to help solve the mystery in a Spanish drama:

Students who will be in 7th or 8th grade in August, 2010:

1) I would like you to click on this site:   http://www.hablame.tv/c/hablame.tv/esp.html

And then click on “recursos gratuito” (free resources). Over the summer, I would like you to choose at least 15 of the pictures shown (Level 1), listen to the description while you read the text, and then write 3 sentences in English to tell what each picture was about. If you feel comfortable, try Level 2 and Level 3. You will be surprised about how much you understand! Turn your sentences in on the first day of class in August.

2) I would like you to click on this site:

http://www.multilingualbooks.com/online-tv-spanish.html   and then scroll down to the TV stations in the purple box. Now choose a country and the television station where you would like to read and listen to the news. You can choose front page stories, or local news, or the sports……just write five short summaries (in English) of 5 news items you read or listened to.
