Welcome to 2nd Grade!
Second grade is filled with great learning fun and opportunities to showcase individual and cooperative learning! Differentiated teaching will promote more experienced writers, readers, and mathematicians as the problem-solving and critical thinking is developed. The goal is to provide a positive, safe and secure learning environment where students will be able to grow academically and socially.
In second grade, we read and learn different genres to become independent readers through guided learning lessons. We learn spelling and rich vocabulary to write more complex sentences to create interesting stories to share with our classmates. We work on math skills and problem solving and get to work on science lab experiments.
We develop confidence and a sense of independence and self-awareness. This will help to reach and celebrate goals. Other learning areas we can build on are through Science, Social Studies, and Health. We can explore our creativity through classes in Spanish, Art, Music, and P.E. Recess is a time to be carefree and enjoy the outdoor play. Best of all, we grow in our Catholic faith through Religion class, daily prayer and chapel.
Curriculum is teacher created based on standards set by the Archdiocese of San Antonio and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. In addition, our students use Wordly Wise 3000, Reading A-Z, Readworks, Bookpagez, Brainpop, Go Math, Faith and Life Series, and CSCOPE to enhance planning and instruction.
