  • I love teaching Art because...

“I want to take the gifts that have been given to me by God, and that have been shaped and strengthened by people in my life and pass them on to others. I can find no better way to do that than to help our children become the artists they all can be.”
    -Ms. Edgington

  • Welcome to Art Class!

In our art classes here at St. Peter’s, we strive to develop creative minds through the study of the elements of art and principles of design as well as the exploration of different medias such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and many others! Students create with a variety of materials while working through hundreds of different kinds of projects with preschool and elementary classes meeting for three 45 minutes class periods a week and middle school meeting for two 50 minutes class periods a week. During our weekly art classes, students learn how to talk about art, develop confidence in their own artistic abilities, freely express their personalities through open creativity built into each and every project and ultimately, develop an alternative way of problem solving through different art processes.

Starting as early as Kindergarten, students begin to explore drawing skills so that a strong artistic foundation is built early on in their creative development. When the students get to middle school, we focus on observation and the realistic recreations of imagery using graphite pencils and acrylic paint where students learn more about shading techniques and more in-depth color mixing.

Our Curriculum is teacher created based on standards set by the Archdiocese of San Antonio and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. In addition to these standards, the National Core Art Standards are used at well.
