  • I love teaching Math because...

"It is beautiful. Because structure and symmetry and pattern have an aesthetic that speaks to me. The more you know about math, the more you start to see that structure in more and more places. The way waves radiate in concentric circles when you drop a pebble in a pond....The spirals and counter-spirals of the seeds of a sunflower."--Kent Haines
    -Mrs. Mendez

  • Welcome to Middle School Mathematics!

In grades 5-8, the goal is to plant and develop the seed of a love of mathematics that will grow into a life-long pursuit of learning. Mathematics is the foundation of all scientific study. Galileo said it best when he stated, “Mathematics is the
language with which God has written the universe.”  Students will cover the entire
scope of mathematics from foundational skills to algebraic concepts at
St. Peter School. They will also make use of technology through online tutorials
and developing calculator skills. Mathematics is a skill that needs to be practiced and will be practiced thoroughly.  Historical context and facts about mathematics are also infused in courses as students' progress. While students learn arithmetic in the primary grades, in middle school it is time to use that arithmetic to learn
    mathematics.

“Mathematics is the queen of science and arithmetic is the queen
of mathematics” - Carl Friedrich Gauss.

Our curriculum is teacher created and based on the standards set forth
by the Archdiocese and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.
Mathematics textbooks will be Sadlier Progress in Mathematics. The
online tutorials will use Khan Academy. Projects, videos and handout
will also be used throughout the year.
