Middle school social studies explores American history, world history, and Texas history.
In American History (5th grade), we introduce this course of study with early exploration and discovery. We continue with the Colonization of the Americas. We discuss and study the French and Indian War, the Revolutionary War, expansion of America, Civil War, Reconstruction, Industrial Age and World Wars to complete the course. We use two textbooks for the course and we learn how to take notes in order to discuss the course material. Maps and supplemental readings are also part of the course.
World History (6th grade) covers cultures of the World. We discuss factual information that gives students a basic understanding of an introduction to World History. The course starts with early man, early civilizations, Mesopotamia, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Alexander the Great, nation building, the Catholic Church, the Renaissance, Reformation, exploration and discovery. We use maps, note taking, a textbook, other resources, and discussion to supplement the course.
Texas History (7th grade) starts with early discovery and exploration. We discuss the early Spanish explorers and their colonization of Texas. We study early Anglo's who came to settle in Spanish Territory, later to become Mexican Territory. We discuss the fight for Texas Independence and defeat of Santa Anna. We learn how Texas started to grow and about the expansion and movement West. We study the Native Americans and the Indian Wars. We study the Civil War, the Cattle Industry, Agricultural Industry, Oil Industry and Petrochemical Industry. We study famous people of Texas, World Wars and the growth of this great State.
American History (8th grade) takes an in-depth look into learning that began during the 5th grade year. We start our course of study with geography and mapping skills. We then study early people of the Americas. Next we discuss the Age of Exploration and Discovery. We study and discuss the colonization of America, the Spanish from the South and the English, French, and Dutch in the East. We discuss and learn about the French and Indian War, Revolutionary War, early expansion, the War of 1812, Western expansion, the Civil War and Reconstruction. We also study the Industrial Age, Indian Wars and settlement of the far West. We learn about World Wars and modern history so students will be prepared for High School History. Note taking, readings, other resources, maps and testing are used in this course of study.
