Thank You for Your Service and Welcome to St. Peter Prince of Apostles School!
San Antonio, known as Military City USA, is home to hundreds of thousands of current or former military service members and their dependents. St. Peter Prince of Apostles School has been a proud neighbor of Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) for 95 years. Located eight minutes from JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, many students are members of Active Duty families while others are children of retirees or veterans who made San Antonio their final PCS. Members of our faculty and staff are also from military families. Military kids at St. Peter’s School will find others who understand their journey and speak their military language.
At St. Peter’s School, military families will find a community rooted in faith and guided by the TIGER values of Tolerance, Integrity, Generosity, Empathy, and Responsibility. St. Peter’s School appreciates that military students navigate childhood changes such as moving, meeting new teachers, and making new friends on a much more frequent basis than most children. They also endure periods of family separation due to deployments or frequent temporary duty orders. St. Peter’s School offers small classroom sizes, proven academic excellence, and a decades-long history of welcoming military children and understanding their needs. We respect the resiliency required of our military families and offer Active Duty tuition discounts, Before/After School Care Programs, and programs and events that honor our military connections. We also offer The Learning Center (TLC), a full day or part time center for ages 18 months to 3 years old. St. Peter’s School is ready to help you make a smooth transition to San Antonio.
Academic Excellence: St. Peter’s School is a consistent Top Scorer among the Archdiocese of San Antonio schools and national average scores on the semiannual NWEA assessments.
Counseling: St. Peter’s School offers all students support through our School Counselor. Military students may experience unique worries related to transitioning to a new school, making new friends, or missing deployed family members. Read more about our School Counselor at our Parents tab.
Before/After School Care: We offer a morning care program beginning at 7:00am. After the school days ends, students enrolled in our After School Care (ASC) program are escorted directly to ASC which runs from 3:20pm until 6:00pm. Read more about extended day programs at our Parents tab. The TLC also has Before/After School Care. Learn more at the TLC tab.
Visit: St. Peter’s School offers an Open House each year in the spring and late summer. We understand these opportunities may not align with your schedules. Contact our Registrar, Ms. Becky Pawelek, at (210) 824-3171 to arrange a tour or for any questions about our school and admissions process. As a Military family, one of the most challenging elements is repeatedly moving and learning a new city, a new way of life, and navigating the path for our children. I was a stay-at-home mother for many of our military years and the early years for our first two children. However, it was only a matter of time before I went back to school and work. I had waited so long because I was uncertain where to send my children to school. The thought of having my children away all day long while in a place I do not call home was frightening for me.
Nevertheless, the time had come, and after talking with a couple of neighbors and receiving a few recommendations, St. Peters was a top contender. St. Peter’s was the first location I took a chance on. I took a chance sending my children to school all day, five days a week, and I was worried. However, my children loved it. The staff was so friendly and kind. They remembered our names and made a point to make us feel known and heard. Their facilities are clean and beautiful. They have found the perfect balance between structure and fun.
Every day when our four-year-old son would come out of his Pre-K class for pick up, he was full of smiles and had stories to tell. The best part was randomly at home; we would hear him singing, counting, or telling stories. He never did that before attending St. Peters. When our two-year-old would come out of the TLC, she was sweaty and messy in the best way possible. You could tell she spent a day full of learning, laughing, playing, and experiencing life. The focus of St. Peters to expand the knowledge and boundaries of children through play and Christ is astonishing. The expectation that the day will fly by for the children because they are experiencing their day to the fullest in a loving environment is an element I think all schools should learn.
Our family recently PCS’ed from San Antonio, Texas, to a new duty station. St. Peter’s set the expectation high. While arriving at our new duty station and touring another private school, all I could think about was comparing St. Peters to this new faculty. We sent our children to this new private school, and they lasted three weeks before we pulled them out. I did not realize that being able to drop my children off at a school that took state regulations seriously, prioritized safety and learning through play and Christ was a privilege. I recently told my husband that I would pay double the price to have my children back at St. Peters. A School with a framework built on learning, playing, friendliness, and safety is hard to come by. We would highly recommend St. Peters!

"As a military family and a family who moves often, we would 10 out of 10 recommend St. Peters. Their framework built on learning, playing, safety, and Christ is astounding. Their clean and beautiful facility provides space for children to learn how to navigate the world at their age. St. Peters has found a seamless balance between structure and fun! They have set the standard high for our family and school choices for our children." -Mandi Afoa
