My name is Alane Rivera and this year will be the fourth year since we joined the SPS family. From early on, the school welcomed us, and I enjoy extending the same welcome to new families that I meet while volunteering as a Home Room Parent, CYO Basketball Team Mom, and School Council President. My son Raymundo is in the second grade, and especially enjoys dressing up for our Annual Halloween Carnival!
I am a product of a Catholic school education myself, having attended St. Gerard Elementary, Providence High School, and the University of Notre Dame, where I graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1996. I later earned a M.S. in Civil Engineering from UT in San Antonio in 2000 and obtained my license to practice engineering in the State of Texas in 2001.
I worked for 16 years as a civil engineer for CPS Energy in the Energy Delivery Services Department, where I provided support on electrical substation and transmission construction projects. My duties included design, drafting, developing environmental permits, and doing inspection work at construction sites.
Besides serving on the board of the Westford Alliance Neighborhood Association from 2008-2010, I also served on the Providence Catholic School Board of Directors from 2008-2012, part of during which I served as the Chairwoman. My husband Raymond, an electrical engineer, and I are strong advocates of STEM initiatives and have written and published a book, “Rocks, Jeans, and Busy Machines” to specifically help young children understand and get excited about the field of engineering. We especially enjoy sharing our engineering passion with the students at SPP!
