M.Ed. Educational Leadership and Policy Study, University of Texas at Arlington
A.B. Psychology, Wabash College
Originally from Robstown, Texas, Gabriel Duarte attended Wabash College where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a concentration in theatre arts. Mr. Duarte began his career in Catholic education in the fall of 2004 when he began teaching at Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth, where he would spend the next fourteen years. He taught junior high drama as well as high school speech courses and then became the director of the high school theatre program. Throughout his decade in the classroom, Mr. Duarte taught Theatre Arts, Psychology AP, a freshman acculturation course, and Technical Theatre, a course he designed. Deeply committed to fostering community and supporting students in all aspects of their lives, Mr. Duarte has also moderated a number of extracurricular activities in addition to directing plays and musicals including freshman orientation, an all-male spirit group, and the LIFE team, a Christian leadership group. He also served the campus ministry department by helping lead retreats and assisted in the athletic department as an assistant coach, statistician, and public address announcer.
Desiring to further serve his school community, Mr. Duarte accepted a position as Dean of Students where he spent three years partnering with faculty and parents to provide a safe, consistent atmosphere for the students at Nolan Catholic. The initiatives he began addressed some of the more difficult issues facing high school students such as social media and bullying, and the addition of an anonymous email account for reporting resulted in the ability of the administration to intervene in serious situations they may not have known about otherwise. After a successful tenure as Dean and earning his Master’s Degree in Educational Policy and Leadership at the University of Texas at Arlington, Mr. Duarte became the Assistant Principal of Academics. During the two years he served in this capacity, Mr. Duarte restructured and strengthened the learning support center and created a new department within the guidance office specifically for college counseling, in addition to ensuring that students were receiving a college-preparatory experience from engaging and challenging teachers.
Mr. Duarte and his wife, Erica, are excited to join the community at St. Peter Prince of Apostles School and the Archdiocese of San Antonio!
