Welcome to Spanish class!
The program begins as an introduction to Spanish and the many Spanish speaking cultures. Spanish will be used at all times for explaining and conducting daily activities and routine. Emphasis is placed on the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students from PK-3 through 4th grade will meet two days a week for 30 minutes and students at the middle school will meet for two days for 50 minutes each class.
In each Spanish class, students greet the teacher in Spanish, do their “para empezar” activity, create their interactive notebook, do the daily update and present the calendar, do presentations in Spanish, sing songs, play bingo, Kahoot, practice in Quizlet, celebrate and participate in cultural activities like: Día de los Muertos, Navidad, Día de la Madre.
Curriculum is teacher created based in the Archdiocese of San Antonio, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages -ACTFL. In addition the following resources are used: Calico Spanish digital program (https://calicospanish.com) for PK3, PK4, K5, 1st. and 2nd grades. ¡Hola! textbook for 3rd., 4th., and 5th grades. ¿Qué tal? textbook for 6th. and 7th grades and ¡Adelante! textbook for 8th grade. Students will also have a workbook.
